July 28, Fishing From the Bank
Matthew 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren,
Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea:
for they were fishers. 19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make
you fishers of men. 20And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
21And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of
Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending
their nets;and he called them. 22And they immediately left the ship and their
father, and followed him.
Jesus taught many lessons. This is only one of the lessons which was taught by
the seaside concerning receiving the Word of God. Becoming a fisher of men
involves forsaking your own way of doing things and following Christ.
The lesson Jesus taught beside the seaside concerned a sower going forth to
sow seeds and the many different types of soil that the seeds fell into.
( See Mark 4:1-20) He further went on to describe the different types of soil
and apply them to different types of people. The sower sows the Word.
The key ingredient in bringing forth souls is letting go of the Word. Whether it
is in being a fisher of men or a sower of seeds, or a builder of spiritual houses,
or a master craftsman, you must follow Jesus in the delivery of the Word. Peter,
James, John, and Andrew were the first Apostles called to follow him, and their
lives were history lessons of commitment, sacrifice and determination to make
disciples of others as well.
Peter stood on the Day of Pentecost and told everyone how to be saved,
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
--Acts 2:38
James wrote, “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth; and one convert
him; Let him know that he which converteth sinner from the error of his way,
shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”
—James 5:19-20.
John wrote of the day Jesus said to Phillip, “Follow me” and Philip then found
Nathanael, and saith unto him, “We have found him, of whom Moses in the law,
and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
—John 1:43-45.
Andrew was the one who noticed the lad with the fish and loaves which Jesus
used to feed the multitude during another time when he taught beside the
seaside. When you follow Jesus, He draws souls out of the darkness by his
lovingkindness.
What lessons will be documented from your experience of following Jesus?
July 29, Fishing from the Ship
Luke 5: 1-3 1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to
hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2And saw two ships
standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were
washing their nets. 3And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s,
and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down,
and taught the people out of the ship.Mark 4:35 And the same day, when the
even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was
in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose
a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they
awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.
And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them,
Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared
exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even
the wind and the sea obey him?To be in relationship with Jesus ensures that we
have all sufficiency of all things. From the abundance of knowledge and
compassion, you will be able to encourage, influence, and give answers to the
hope that lies with you. When Jesus was awakened during the storm, he rebuked the cause of the unrestand spoke to the thing affected by the winds and the
waves. They were all still in the ship. When Paul was shipwrecked at sea, his
message was to stay in the ship. SeeActs 27:27-32.When we receive sonship,
we are capable of evangelizing the lost to become apart of the family of God.
Establishing the trust and confidence in the Word of God will bring about a
fellowship of the spirit that will convince others thatsalvation is possible through
believing on Jesus Christ.
July 30 - Launching out in the Deep
Luke 5:1-114 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out
into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5And Simon answering said
unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing:
nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6And when they had this done,
they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7And they
beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should
come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they
began to sink. 8When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying,
Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9For he was astonished, and all
that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10And so
was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon.
And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
11And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed
him.
The deep places afford a refuge for the oppressor. It is there that depression, sadness, and hopelessness abides. When Jesus launched out into the deep, the obedience of the Apostles was what equipped them for the great catch. When you expect God to deliver at His Word, in spite of how long you tried to capture the heart of those bound by deep issues, there will be a great catch. Just believe God.
